Our secret came out during shiva… Hello, My name is Chana Nimni, and I'm 11 years old. Just a short while ago, I sat at our Shabbos table laughing, as my father shared a beautiful dvar Torah. Everything felt so peaceful. Suddenly, he stopped speaking. I watched helplessly as my Abba collapsed to the floor. He never woke up. I still hear the screams echoing in my ears. Now, my Ima is alone. She tries so hard to smile for us, but I see her crying quietly when she thinks we're asleep. Since my father passed away, our home feels different—emptier, quieter, sadder. But even more frightening is how difficult everything became afterward. I never realized how poor we really were until neighbors came during shiva and were shocked that we don't even own closets to put our clothes in. We always managed before, because Abba worked so hard cooking in the yeshiva to support us. Without Abba's income, Ima struggles every day just to feed us. My younger siblings wake up crying at night. They need therapy just to get through this nightmare. We never thought we would have to ask for help like this. We never thought we would lose our father. But I don't know what else to do. I'm writing this letter to ask you, please, to help us. We just want to survive—to have food, therapy, and a chance at a normal life again.
