"If you will walk in My statutes…" (Rashi explains: that you should toil in Torah…) In Likutey Moharan, Part II, Lesson 1, Rebbe Nachman concludes with the words: "Fortunate is the one who merits to feel the sweetness of the Torah—for there truly is a supreme pleasantness in the Torah, and the main thing is to merit feeling that sweetness." When one is truly connected to Hashem, this pleasantness flows down into the world. Of course, the highest level is when a person is privileged to truly toil in Torah—amal haTorah—and experiences a spiritual delight that defies description. Reb Noson teaches that even through something as seemingly simple as making a blessing over food—or any other daily experience—when we live with the awareness that Someone is behind everything, and we strive to connect to that awareness, then we too can receive a taste of that heavenly sweetness. This is also the deeper meaning of the blessings promised in the parshah: "The land will yield its produce…" All bounty and blessing that flows down from the no'am elyon—the supreme pleasantness rooted in the holiness of Eretz Yisrael—becomes accessible to us when we live with that connection. These blessings are experienced most deeply in the Land of Israel. May we be privileged to live with this deep sense of connection to Hashem, to the holiness of Eretz Yisrael, and to the true sweetness that comes from closeness to Him. Amen. Shabbat Shalom |
