Subject: MDA EMT keeps his brother alive
Fahed Birumi, only 37, was seeing his doctor for chest pains, when the doctor decided to call MDA to transport Fahed immediately to the hospital. But Fahed went into cardiac arrest just as his brother, an EMT himself, as well as an MDA ambulance team arrived.
Fahed's condition was critical en route to the hospital. After each shock from the defibrillator, he'd regain consciousness and then lapse back into cardiac arrest. Though it was an emotional situation, Ali kept his feelings in check and continued to work with fellow EMT Michael Yohanov to save his brother.
"I had to keep fighting for his life to make sure my nephews wouldn't be orphans," said Ali.
But thanks to Ali and Michael's lifesaving work en route, Fahed made a full recovery at the hospital and was eventually discharged to rejoin his family.
Your support ensures Magen David Adom paramedics and EMTs like Ali can continue to save lives in Israel, whether the patient is from their family or yours. Support MDA today.![]()
