Hi, I'm Shimon Levi. I am twelve and a half, and my bar mitzvah is in just a few months.
The boys in my class are very busy with their fathers: Practicing their haftorahs Going to pick out tefillin Learning daily halachot, to be sure they know how to fulfill their obligations…
My father passed away suddenly when I was four years old, so obviously I won't be doing these things.
My rebbeim are stepping in, which is nice of them.
My mother is trying her best. It's difficult, because she goes to the hospital twice a month for chemo, and she feels awful in between treatments. 🤮 Sometimes I go to the hospital, and she listens to me practice my haftorah 📜. The doctors aren't happy with the progress of Ima's treatments. She must go to Boston in America for specialized surgery and chemo. They say it's her only chance.
So for my bar mitzvah, I pray neither of my parents will be there. My father is in the Olam HaEmet, and lbchl"ch, my mother will be in Boston, getting healthy.
This would be the best bar mitzvah present - having my mother in Boston for surgery! I have no father - please give me a healthy mother!!!!
Thank you, Shimon |
